Matting

Well it is Saturday and we have had a day of dogs with spring Matting. I would llike to encourage everyone to purchase a greyhound style comb and if you do not know how to use it I will be happy to help you learn when you come in.
We find people brushing over the top believing they are combing all the way through the hair and suddenly their pet is all matted and they have been combing everyday.
The other problem people have is bathing between grooms and with all this rain, we have been seeing when the hair gets wet with light matting already in the hair it shrinks up and felts the hair. Solution make sure you can get through your dogs hair with the fine end of the comb all the way through before and after bathing and after they get wet outside run your comb through it.

Do not put your dog through a full groom every time. Just try to do one leg or one ear and do a couple of min every day you will see a marked improvment and your dog will learn to love the time you spend grooming on him becasue you are not dematting all the time. For those of you who like to keep your dogs long this will help you keep them long and keep your grooming cost down. If you are bringing your dog in every four weeks we would like to ask that you not bath between grooms unless you can get a fine tooth comp all the way through your pets hair.
